How to understand your social media account was hacked
Social media account hacking is a common thing, and many of us have faced this problem at least once in our lives. Or at least they know people who have come across this.
It is important that most often the problem is solved easily and quickly, and the administration of popular social networks improves constantly the techniques of protecting users and interacting with the user in the context of connection validation. But so far, precedents have been frequent and even regular, and the users often can’t identify the fact of hacking to take measures unilaterally.
There are three common reasons for hacking accounts.
- Just for fun
Hackers use their skills to inflict irrational harm or self-assertion. Usually, such interactions do not carry anything, because its purpose is the very fact of hacking. Most of these use special apps like hack WhatsApp to view all user conversation
- Personal reasons
Such attack is aimed at a particular person in order to harm him and his reputation. The attacker gets access to the account and starts sending outrageous content to friends and so on. Also, it is all about thefts of personal information: correspondence, private photos, etc.
- Dirty commercial purposes
Real users of social networks are the main driving force in SMM, so the opportunity to get trusted users into their power is an obvious thing. Uncontrolled reports, strengthening of the positions of the commercial account, to which the hacked page subscribes: all this contributes to sales. Most often, not for a long time.
What do you need to pay attention to understand that your account was hacked?
Let’s denote the typical signs of an unpleasant situation.
1. Unknown origin messages on your wall on your behalf
Perhaps this is the most obvious thing that can happen. If you see a foreign entry on your behalf on the wall in a public view, change the password immediately. Don’t forget to delete that posts, of course.
But consider that if the page is maintained by several moderators, someone else could have made the post. And do not forget about the programs of automatic filling of public pages with content.
Also here you can mention the appearance of changes in the personal information sections of user’s account.
2. Connecting to an account from an atypical location
Social networks always check IP address of the connection and keep in mind the data on the last few connections. This information can be found and viewed in your account. If you live in England and have noticed login from any Brazil, almost certainly your account was hacked. Check and keep under control the list of connections all the time, do not forget to end sessions of use in unusual places for you or from foreign devices. Almost all sites show you automatic alerts about such incidents, so it’s quite easy to control the issue today.
Note that the site’s concern may be caused by a mess in your network, but not by the device.
3. You can’t login to your account
If you can’t get access to your account, and the site says that your password is wrong, it doesn’t always mean that you forget the symbols. Maybe your account was hacked with a password change. If it’s true, notice that your attached e-mail might be changed too, so you’ll not be able to do anything with it.
Or you can?
The situation is really unpleasant, but the administration does not want to lose an honest and loyal user under any circumstances. You can always find contacts to have a conversation with the administration to explain the situation. All popular social networks have their own countermeasures to solve such problem, just follow the corresponding instructions after request.
4. Lots of new unfamiliar pages in your friend list
Your friend list caught up with unknown personalities? Most likely, a harmful program has captured your account and forced you to subscribe to a ton of spam bots (this is important for promotion something.) The situation is accompanied by sending on your behalf of malicious links to “normal” friends. Change the password immediately and write to everyone not to use that links.
So, be careful, use the maximum available protection, and you will be able to avoid such problems in most cases. We wish you a pleasant and safe presence in social networks!
